Accra, Jan 8, GNA - Coach Joseph De Graft, the new technical helmsman at Accra Great Olympics has vowed to transform the team into a winsome side that will rub shoulders effectively with the heavyweights of Ghana football.
In an exclusive interview with GNA Sports, the former Sekondi Hasaacas coach said he accepted to coach Olympics based on his conviction that he had what it takes to re-mould the playing pattern of team and set it up on a conquerors' expedition in the premiership.
"I do not go into battle with a negative mentality; it's a waste of time to do so.
"I came to Olympics becau se I believe I am capable of redefining the fortunes of the team."
He blamed immaturity of players for the poor run of the club in the league, saying that most of the players were negative about their roles and their general attitude was appalling, conditions, which were detrimental to the success of the team. "Most of the players I met at the club are not ripe for the premiership, but fortunately, some of the old players are coming back and I hope to blend them into a strong and competitive side as soon as possible."
He said his priority was to inculcate a winsome spirit in the boys and direct them to utilize the chances they create in matches because goals win matches and the more chances a team fluffs, the more likely it is to lose a match. Coach De Graft said he would use the recess, which the league would go on after the 10th week to sharpen the rough edges of the team in readiness for a total onslaught when the competition resumes after Ghana 2008.
On his relationship with the often agitated and reactionary Olympics supporters, he said he was not bothered about them. "I am out to do a good job and if that is done, the fans will be pleased," he concluded.
Great Olympics won their first match in the premiership under coach De Graft last Sunday when they beat Gamba All Blacks 2-0. The coach is the third to mount the technical saddle of the Ghanaian Blues in the nine week old league. Earlier in the season, coaches Nii Adu Sackey and Abraham Allotey had technical responsibilities at the club.
