Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Opoku, has stated that the aim of playing the Democracy Cup was achieved.

Bobie labelled the event that commemorated 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana a success, claiming that it promoted unity among Ghanaians.

He emphasized that the motive of the event was to unite Ghanaians as the country gears up for general elections in a few months.

“The objective of having this activity as part of the celebration is to bring Ghanaians together ahead of the elections (2024 Presidential and Parliamentary) to preach peace," he told the media.

"Today, as you can see, everybody is happy. We are Ghanaians and we are interacting with each other…so this is the objective of having the Democracy Cup," he added.

The eventful night saw Members of Parliament beat former Black Stars players 3-1 in the curtain-raiser game before Kotoko beat Hearts of Oak in the main game to clinch the trophy.

As part of the winner's package, Asante Kotoko will face Major League Soccer side DC United in a friendly game in the US.
