Deontay Wilder was supposed to visit Ghana for Azumah Nelson Fight Night - Yaw Sakyi

Former WBC Heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder was supposed to visit Ghana for one of Azumah Nelson’s Fight Night, the CEO of Azumah Nelson Boxing Promotions Yaw Sakyi has exclusively confirmed to Ghanaweb.com.

Yaw Sakyi Afari in a phone interview on Friday confirmed that the former American heavyweight champion had planned to visit the motherland in April but was obstructed following the outbreak of the global pandemic, coronavirus.

According to the CEO of Azumah Nelson Boxing Promotions, they will continue to communicate if Wilder’s management will reconsider a move to visit Ghana after the pandemic.

“We were actually supposed to have Deontay Wilder in Ghana this month for Azumah Nelson Fight Night but everything has changed. We are just waiting to see how thing will fare after the pandemic, Yaw Sakyi Afari exclusively told Ghanaweb.

Deontay Wilder is not the only American boxer who has expressed interest to visit Ghana.

Last month, Ghanaweb reported how Ghanaian ‘billionaire’, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar had planned to bring his friend, Floyd Mayweather to visit Ghana last month as well.

The former undefeated welterweight champion has continuously expressed his intentions to visit Ghana on a number of occasions and the recent one was in March.

Meanwhile, Frank Warren, the promoter of British world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has disclosed that there could be a 3rd fight, Deontay Wilder, in October.
