Derek Boateng reveals Dnipro frustrations

Ghana international midfielder Derek Boateng has admitted he was not comfortable with staying at Ukrainian side FC Dnipro as he had a Fulham move on his mind for years.

The nomadic 30-year-old finally completed his move to the Craven Cottage from Dnipro on a two-year-contract a protracted stop-start negotiations between Fulham and Dnipro.

Fulham boss Martin Jol kept faith in the versatile midfielder who can switch between defensive and offensive roles and brought him to West London.

Boateng was declared surplus to requirement at Dnipro with manager Juande Ramos refusing to feature him in games.

During the period, Fulham made two unsuccessful attempts to sign him with Dnipro unwilling to allow him leave.

And the former Getafe midfielder reveals his attention at the Dnipro Arena was all on Fulham.

“Fulham were interested a few years ago. There was a misunderstanding with Dnipro. Fulham really wanted me to come but they said no. I wanted to go. I always had Fulham in mind – that was the club I wanted to play for.

“It’s a big relief for me to finally be here. This is the third time they’ve come in for me, so I thank God it’s happened.

“I called my family and told them it’s over now’. I can have fun and play my football,” he revealed.
