Accra, July 24, GNA - President of the Ghana Football Association, (GFA) Mr Kwasi Nyatakyi has called on Optimum Media Prime, (OMP) owners of television rights of the Glo Premier League to develop another consortium for the live coverage of the 2009/10 premiership. This, he said, will enable other television companies to have access to the coverage of the Premier League matches.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony of a GHC 100,000 to the Association as final payment of the Media Rights sponsorship deal for the League, Mr Nyantakyi said "just as a consortium was developed for the live coverage of the recent Confederation Cup competition in South Africa, a similar one can be arranged for the coverage of the Premier League".
Mr Nyantakyi said this will be in the wider interest of all Ghanaian football fans and make the premiership more popular. He, however, explained that the broadcast right for the 2008/9 soccer season was an open bid which OMP won, adding that it was the responsibility of any station interested in coverage to negotiate with OMP.
The FA boss said coverage of the League was not exclusive to Metro TV, adding that any other station can seek permission from OMP to broadcast it.
Mr Fadi Fatal, Chief Executive Officer of OMP said the payment was a further confirmation of a healthy relationship between his organization and the GFA.
He congratulated the GFA and the Premier League Board (PLB) for successfully organizing the premiership. Mr Ken Ashiegbey, Managing Director of OMP stated that his outfit was ready to negotiate with any television station interested in covering the Premier League. He also expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation with the GFA. 24 July 09
