Veteran sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has criticized New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, for his comments undermining the late President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He stated that NAPO's comparison of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to Nkrumah is not an issue, but using the pronoun "your" to describe the reputable statesman is problematic.

The Peace FM journalist questioned whether NAPO has experts in communication to guide his utterances in public to avoid making controversial statements that could jeopardize his aspirations.

Kwaku Yeboah noted that NAPO should have thanked Ghanaians and members of the NPP for the role assigned to him and solicited the people's support instead of making unnecessary comments.

"Mahama was trending recently over his Free SHS comments, and now NAPO has bailed him from the trends. Doesn't NAPO have a communications manager? Because at an unveiling ceremony, you were supposed to appreciate the support of Asantes, NPP, and Ghanaians and urge them to rally behind him for victory in the elections.

"That would have been better. Why would you say things like that as someone who has been in politics for over 20 years? Using the pronoun 'your' to describe Nkrumah escalated the issue," he said in Twi while speaking on Peace FM.

These remarks follow Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh's praise of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's government, which he believes is unmatched in Ghana's 67 years of independence.

Speaking to party leaders and supporters in Kumasi on Tuesday, June 9, 2024, NAPO argued that no other Ghanaian president, including the nation's first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has been as instrumental in driving the country's development as President Akufo-Addo.

NAPO asserted, "This is unprecedented in Ghana's history. Should President Akufo-Addo retire, I can confidently say that since Ghana's establishment in 1957, no president has been more beneficial to the state than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo."

NAPO's claim that "from 1957 until now, no one, not even 'your' Kwame Nkrumah, has led and developed Ghana more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo" has sparked strong criticism on social media, with some condemning him for his disrespectful remarks.
