DESPITE making just one appearance in a possible seven for Fredrikstad FK in the Norwegian Tippeligaen league, Dominic Adiyiah is hopeful of a quick return to the starting line-up of the Champions League bound Norwegian side. Former Heart of Lions striker, Adiyiah, who lost out on a regular first team place after joining the Black Satellites for the African U-20 championship in Rwanda, talked about his predicament in an interview with 90 Minutes newspaper and vowed to win his place back. “I had been at my best prior to the African U-20 tournament in Rwanda, but I somehow lost out in the starting eleven as the person who replaced me justified his position in the team,” he lamented. “It's not pleasant to be watching games from the dug-out, but I have to be strong to win my place back. I must admit though that it would not be easy as the players here are equally good as me, so I need to work extra hard.”
On his relationship with the playing body and the management of the club, Adiyiah said he's not encountered any problems so far. “I'm enjoying my stay here though I'm yet to get to grips with the language, something I'm seriously working on,” he said. Fredrikstad finished second to Stabaek IF last season which enables them to participate in the next edition of the UEFA Champions League “I'm focused on winning my place back so that I could contribute meaningfully when the qualifiers of the next Champions League begins. If my performance is good, who knows I might even get a move to one of those big clubs around. Every player's dream is to play in the topmost leagues in Europe, but I haven't had any contact over a possible move elsewhere so at the moment I'm concentrating on doing well here,” he added. Adiyiah missed yesterday's Norwegian match of the week when his side traveled to play Anthony Annan's Rosenborg BK due to an injury he picked at training on Friday. He is expected to be sidelined for a week though he could make a quick recovery for their match against Tromso IL on Thursday.
