Board Member of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Augustine Arhinful says the body is against the implementation of player salary cuts by local clubs.
The initiative is being practiced across board by European football clubs in a bid to cut down expenses and avert any financial crisis amid the Corona Virus outbreak.
The CoronaVirus pandemic has brought almost all sporting activities to a standstill with experts fearing that the situation could have dire consequences on the global sporting economy.
Clubs like Barcelona, Juventus among others have all introduced player salary deferrals and salary cuts.
When quizzed about whether Ghanaian clubs should emulate such acts, former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful, disagreed.
“I think the pay cut has become an issue globally and I entreat journalists to delve into these issues before propagating the agenda here”.
“The suspension of the league is only two weeks old so there are no huge expenses these club administrators have incurred”.
“Let’s use Eleven wonders or King Faisal as a case study, what is the minimum salary in these clubs”.
“How much will these players earn after this deduction. Ronaldo is earning over $30million a year and wouldn’t have any problem slashing his salary because of the situation. These players in Europe are willingly doing it”.
“It shouldn’t be forced on our players. It should genuinely come from their heart. We cannot situate what is happening in europe to Ghana” he told Kumasi FM.
