Don't invite 'distractive' Ayew brothers - Addae Mensah to Kwesi Appiah

Managing Director of Databank, Kojo Addae-Mensah says it will be premature to invite Andre and Jordan Ayew back into the Black Stars.

The duo have been excluded from Ghana duty since last year after they were believed to have faked illness so that they could skip the Black Stars game against Congo in a World Cup qualifier, after the team were held at home by Congo Brazzaville in the first leg match.

Several pundits claim the attitude of the two brothers prompted coach Kwesi Appiah to exclude them from the team.

Despite the notions being quashed by coach Kwesi Appiah, the duo were again left of the team’s AFCON 2019 qualifier against the Harambee Stars of Kenya in which Ghana were pipped 1-0 by the hosts.

In an interview with Ohene Bampoe–Brenya on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Mr. Addae-Mensah said he believes the calls to invite the duo will be premature as Kwesi Appiah continues to build a new team for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

“I still support Kwesi Appiah’s decision of not calling the Ayews,” Mr. Addae-Mensah told Happy FM.

“They are distracting the team. The attention is always on them whenever they are with them.”

“It’s premature to ask Kwesi Appiah to invite the Ayews.”

The Black Stars return to action next month when they play Sierra Leone in a double-header in the qualifiers.

Appiah’s outfit is now tied on points with Kenya, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone, who all have three points apiece.
