Doubts over Gyan's fitness to face Comoros

Avram Grant Avram Grant

Ghana coach Avram Grant has confirmed Asamoah Gyan is likely to sit out the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Comoros on Friday due to the nature of the pitch in Moroni.

The Black Stars players will be playing on an unfamiliar artificial pitch in the first leg clash against Comoros.

The synthetic pitch raises the risk levels of players sustaining various degrees of injuries.

Gyan, who has just returned from injury, is struggling to hit full fitness due to the effects of training on an artificial pitch.

And coach Avram Grant confirmed his technical and medical team will be monitoring the Shanghai SIPG ace before taking a decision on whether to play him on Friday or not.

This is a different pitch and players who had injuries before need to be taken care of because this is not a good pitch for players returning from injury, he said.

Maybe, we need to wait and see but he is just coming from injury and he is doing his best to be fit for the game but I cannot say the pitch is helping him.
