Dr Kofi Amoah hijacking our operations – Women's AFCON LOC

The Local Organizing Committee of the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship has accused the CAF/FIFA Liaison Team led by Dr Kofi Amoah of hijacking their operations.

The Liaison Team wrote to CAF without the consent of the LOC of Ghana’s inability to host the tournament which is slated to kickoff in November.

Renovation works at the Accra Sports Stadium – one of the stadia earmarked to host the games – remain ongoing.

There are however fears that these works may not be completed in time for the hosting of the tournament – leading to CAF summoning the Sports Minister.

But LOC chairperson Hon, Freda Prempeh is lamenting over the lack of consultation by the Liaison Team in key decision-making processes.

“I had found out that the Liaison Team had written to CAF over our inability to host the African Cup,” she said.

“But we are still working towards delivering a good tournament and work is still ongoing at the various sites.

“It was therefore shocking to learn that such a letter was sent to CAF without recourse to the LOC or the Ministry.

“The Liaison Team wrote this letter to CAF without putting us or the Ministry in copy and I don’t think it is the best.”

Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah is set to meet CAF President Ahmad Ahmad next week in Mauritius before a definite decision is taken.

CAF have already stripped Cameroon off hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations over their inability to get the required infrastructure in place ahead of schedule.
