Duncan named new Accra Hearts of Oak coach

Former Ashantigold coach David Duncan has been named the new trainer of Accra giants Hearts of Oak following weeks of emergency meeting by the club’s board of directors.

The Phobians severed ties with coach C.K Akunnor following three straight defeats out of five games in the Glo Premier League 2012-13 season.

The former Miners’ coach has been out of the coaching duties after failing to lead Ghana’s Under-23 team to the 2012 London Olympic Games and then proceeded to coach South African side Free States Stars.

Former Liberty Professionals trainer JE Sarpong was the prime contender for the position but the Phobians have opted to give the job to the former Ghana U17 coach.

Straight-talking Duncan has a lot of experience in the Ghanaian league after stints with Accra Great Olympics, Sekondi Hasaacas and guiding Ashantigold to the second position in the domestic top flight two seasons ago.

Duncan’s first game in charge will be against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko on November 18 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
