Dwarfs beat Hearts but have been relegated

Cape Coast, Nov. 13, GNA - Cape Coast Dwarfs endorsed their authority over Accra Hearts Of Oak with a 2-1 victory in their last GT Premier League match at the Robert Mensah Stadium but it was not enough to stop them from going on relegation.

It was their second victory over the Phobians this season after winning 3-2 in the first round in Accra.

Dwarfs finished 15th on the table after 30 games just as Okwawu, but the Soccer Mountaineers, escaped relegation with superior gaols. Hearts who were involved in a motor accident on their way to honouring the match but escaped unhurt, shot into the lead on the fourth minute through goal king Prince Tagoe.

Ekow Ghanasah who wasted a 24th minute penalty for Dwarfs, atoned for his earlier miss with a 68th-minute equaliser. Veteran Richard Ackon scored the match-winner for Dwarfs in the 75th minute but the players broke down in tears after hearing that Okwawu have also won their game against Sportive at Nkawkaw.

Liberty Professionals shared honours with Ashantigold when they sold out a goalless drawn game in their GT Premier League final duel at the Dansoman Park on Sunday.

The game lived to its pre-match billing that saw a crunchy but interesting and uncompromising display by the two teams as they entertained the sparse crowd with a well-composed game. Both teams interestingly tied on 41 point before the game and had occasional chances at goal, but poor finishing by their attackers ensured they only added a point each to their respective build up on the final log.

It was however the visitor's goalkeeper Fatau Dauda who stole the show with a couple of glittering saves that left the partisan supporters impressed with his performance any time the host threatened the goal area of the visitors.

Bofoakwa Tano beat visiting Kumasi King Faisal 2-1 in their match at the Sunyani Coronation.

Bofoakwa led 1-0 at first half through Senyoh Reuben in the 26th minute.

After the Accra-based referee O.K. Amankwah had signalled for the commencement of the match, it was Bofoakwa who nearly grabbed the opener in the fourth minute but Senyoh's effort was not only ruled off-side but his close-range shot went miles away. In the 19th minute, Kingsley Agyemang of Bofoakwa also threw away a begging chance, after receiving a perfect pass 20 yards from the opponents' vital area, he woefully shot wide to the chagrin of the supporters.

Despite the stiff opposition by the Faisal boys, Bofoakwa managed to hit the back of the net first through Senyoh in the 26th minute. Agyemang nearly made two in the 34th minute but his long-range shot was parried over the bar by goalkeeper Aziz Basiru amidst cheers from the gallery.

Sensing danger, Captain Shilla Illiasu and his boys who won 2-0 against Bofoakwa in Kumasi in the first round, pushed more men into attack in the second half as Prince Antwi, Osei Kofi, Owusu Agyemang, Eric Gawu and Emmanuel Yahaya combined effectively to pin the "Otobilla" boys to their own half.

It was during one of such incessant raids that substitute Yaw Sarpong connected a neat pass from Gawu in the 65th minute to level matters for his side.

Bofoakwa had their second goal in the 75th minute through Opoku Antwi.
