Eight players banned

for a match each from GHALCA knockout

Accra, Aug 17, GNA - Eight players have been banned from their respective first games as the Ghana League Clubs Association's (GHALCA) Novelty Knock-Out tournament enters the quarter final at all the league centres on Thursday.

The eight who were booked for unsporting behaviour in the preliminary stage of the competition in addition to the ban have been fined between 100,000 cedis to 200,000 cedis depending on the circumstances for their expulsion.

A statement from the organisers copied to the GNA Sports named BA United's duo of Alhaji Abass and Alex Odenkey, Ralph Onyina of Real Sportive, Agyemang Hanson and James Dissarama from Liberty Professionals, Great Olympics Kwabena Dodzie, Edward Sosu of Fetteh Feyenoord and Ishak Debrah of King Faisal as the affected players. Of the eight, Abass was fined 200,000 cedis for attracting two yellow cards that led to his expulsion.

GHALCA said 28 other players have also received a caution each for either dissent or unsporting behaviour.

The tournament's biggest casualty, Accra Hearts of Oak top the list of clubs with the most cautions with four yellow cards followed by Power FC and Sekondi Hasaacas with three yellow cards each.

Teams with two cautions are Feyenoord, Olympics, Arsenals, Liberty, Sportive, King Faisal, Heart of Lions, BA United, Kotoko and Bofoakwa whilst Okwawu United had one yellow card to their credit.

The Special Knock-Out tournament is being organised by GHALCA to keep the Premier League teams busy in the wake of the long break of the local Kinapharma Premier League.
