Electric Elvis Manu destroys Alkmaar

Elvis Manu delivered an outstanding display as Feyenoord beat AZ Alkmaar 4-1 in the Eredivisie.

Feyenoord headed to the AFAS stadium in fine fettle and they extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a comprehensive victory.

The unfortunate Derrick Luckassen—a Netherlands U21 defender of Ghanaian origin—conceded an own goal within three minutes which set the tone for a one-sided contest.

The match was over before the break as Anass Achahbar made it 2-0 after an assist from Manu on 40 minutes before the Ghanaian opened his account with one of the last kicks of the half.

The forward completed his brace on 59 minutes, thoroughly burying the miserable home side.

Alkmaar did pull one back as Sven van Beek put the ball past Kenneth Vermeer, but the damage had well and truly been done.

Beyond his goals, and his assist for Achahbar, Manu was the game’s outstanding performer.

He managed both more shots (six) and shots on target (four) than any other player on the pitch according to WhoScored, and was also the match’s joint-most effective dribbler.

His excellent interplay with Achahbar was evident throughout the contest, and with the pair in such fine form, there is still hope that The Club on the Meuse could overtake Ajax and claim second spot in the league—the Amsterdam side are currently six points ahead of the Rotterdam club.

Manu’s campaign hasn’t always been this explosive, and heading into this one, he had only managed four goals in his previous 20 Eredivisie matches.
