Players of Ghana Premier League club Elmina Sharks have expressed disappointment at the Ghana Football Association’s decision to cancel the league.

The GFA on Wednesday announced that the season has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a decision the Elmina Sharks players are not happy with.

The Cape Coast-based club occupied the 5th position before the League was initially suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Deputy Captain of Elmina Sharks Samuel Arthur was optimistic that his team would have made it into the Top Four had the season continued.

“We are really disappointed that we started the league in good form and now it has to stop. We were determined we were going to play in the Top 4 this season but the league was cancelled. We are very disappointed.”

Defender Emmanuel Addington added his voice to their concern.

“Well, it’s very disappointing; regarding our form, everyone could see we were on top of our game, we played very hard, winning games. I remember we played eight consecutive matches without losing so we feel very disappointed, especially we the players of Elmina Sharks.”

Top goal scorer of the side Benjamin Bernard Boateng was equally bemused by the decision.

“We were hurt when we heard the news, because were determined to play in the Top 4. However, we will keep training and be fit because we don’t want to lose our current form.”

Benjamin Boateng has scored seven goals for his club this season and he was one of the most talked about players. He is only 19.
