Dutch-born Ghanaian attacker Elvis Manu has expressed shock at his blunders in Feyenoord’s 2-1 win over Standard Liege in the Uefa Europa League on Thursday night.
The 21-year-old unbelievably squandered a glorious chance in either halves in times Feyenoord needed a goal to win the game. But he later scored the match winner to ensure Feyenoord remain leaders of Group G.
“I got another good cross from Nelom. I thought I shoot straight through the net but suddenly I see the keeper surfacing for me. I was already cheering but the ball refused to go in,” he said in the post-match interview.
“The fans supported me well and for that I wanted to do something extra,” he added.
But the attacker did not let Fred Rutten’s men down as he hit the match winner six minutes to the end of the tie.
Manu has been involved in seven goals for Feyenoord this season, setting up six and scoring twice.
