Ghanaian youngster Eric Ocansey was shown the red card for punching his opponent in the face whilst in action for KAS Eupen in the Belgian top-flight league on Saturday.
The 20-year-old raced from behind and attacked his opponent with a blow in the 49th minute of the game which his side, Eupen, lost 4-1 at their favourite Kehrwegstadion.
Nicolas Laforge, the center referee, halted the game and consulted the VAR team upon which he shown the Ghanaian a straight red card for his violent foul.
The offensive midfielder could face further punishment from the Pro League’s disciplinary organ.
His sending off affected Eupen as they suffered a heavy defeat on their first home game in the league this season.
Ocansey, who is a younger brother of former Accra Great Olympics playmaker Michael Ocansey, scored for Eupen last weekend.
The red card means he would miss both of Eupen’s upcoming league games. But, he could spend further time on the sidelines if he is handed further punishment.
