Essien, Boateng to miss WC camping

Midfielders Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince Boateng will not partake in the first session of Ghana’s Pre-World Cup campaign which starts on Tuesday.

Both players have been excused on the grounds of family issues. However, Schalke midfielder Boateng is expected to use the period to sort out his fitness issues with his personal doctor, Goal Ghana understands.

The duo will join the team in Holland on May 25 where the residential camping begins.

The Black Stars will begin non-residential camping on Tuesday and play a farewell match with a locally assembled all-stars team on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

They will leave for Holland on Saturday for the second part of the pre-World Cup campaign on Saturday where a friendly match with the Oranjes will be honoured.

Barring any injuries, both Essien and Boateng are expected to make the final 23-man squad for the tournament in Brazil.
