Essien Has Not Snubbed The Black Stars- Appiah

Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah has debunked media reports that Real Madrid Ghanaian midfielder, Michael Essien is unwilling to join the Black Stars ever again.

Speaking to reporters on Monday afternoon, the coach indicated that his recent interaction with the on loan Chelsea star points to the fact that Essien will play for the Black Stars sooner.

“He has indicated to me that at the right time he will come back to play for the country,” he said.

“He has not snubbed me and he is willing to come back into the national team within the shortest possible time.

“Most of the time I try to speak with them(Black Stars players), so for him in particular, about six months ago I spoke with him he made me aware that he is going to Real Madrid. I then gave him the time to settle in the team. “He has not mentioned to me that he won’t play for the Black Stars again so at any time he can come back to play for Ghana,” Coach Appiah added.

Michael Essien has not played for Ghana since the 2010 Nations Cup where the Black Stars despite losing to the Ivory Coast in the group stages, went on to reach the final with a relatively unknown team.

According to coach Kwesi Appiah, the Black Stars coaching staff has been monitoring the player and believe he will make the much needed return at the opportune time.

“We have been monitoring him and I spoke with him again and he has indicated to me that we should still wait for a while”

“So in his own words when he settles, he will come back to the team.” Appiah concluded.
