Ghana midfielder Michael Essien finally made his much-awaited debut for Panathinakos in a low profile friendly game against Egaleo on Monday.

Essien, playing his game for the Greek giants since joining from AC Milan, last 65 minutes on the pitch.

The Ghana international was replaced by Vasilis Angelopolous as they thumped the lower division side 5-0.

The match was organized to keep players who have not been called up for international duty fit ahead of their Greek Super against Panionios on September 12.

The news will be real boost to the side as the Ghanaian will be instrumental in their title push this term.

Essien has endured a difficult spell on the sideline with a problematic groin injury which has kept him out since he signed for the side.

He missed the side’s 4-0 win over Kalloni last Sunday but should be available against Panionios.
