Essien guides Chelsea to brush aside Arsenal

Ghana star midfielder Michael Essien put up a master-class performance in midfield for Chelsea on Tuesday night as the Blues overpowered Arsenal 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho handed the armband to the experienced midfielder to mark his 200th domestic appearance for the London giants.

The 30-year-old convinced many of his real quality and substance with a majestic display in the midfield for Chelsea partnering the Nigerian midfielder Mikel Obi.

The Black Stars midfielder occasionally burst forward to support the attack and also did exceptionally well in the midfield posting around over 45 passes through the 90 minutes in the game.

It was Essien’s second appearance in the season for Chelsea and the second time he wore the armband to guide the Blues to victory.

Spanish duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata scored the goals for Chelsea as they display yet another commanding performance.
