Former Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien is currently trending at number 1 on micro-blogging site Twitter.
The current hashtag of the former Chelsea star is about a heated debate on who is the best player between Ghanaian duo Thomas Teye Partey and Michael Essien.
With global football suspended due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, football fans on social media have resulted at times to comparing players to entertain themselves while they wait for the resumption of football.
The majority of the users who took part in the debate were angry that people will compare a FIFA Best player award nominee, CAF player of the year nominee, and a veteran in European football to Partey who has just started making a name for himself in Europe.
Joy FM's Owuraku Ampofo who was arguing in favor of the Atletico Madrid star said"Essien scored 9 goals for the Black Stars in 58 appearances. It took Partey less than half of those games (27) to score 10 goals for Ghana."

The tweet didn't go down well with many football lovers who claimed that those who are tweeting in favor of Partey are novices in the game. See some of the reactions below.

Very sad ??????????????#WeNoDeyHear
Who made that ranking? In la liga only messi, busquets and kroos are better passers than partey, he easily breaks lines like they don't exist, has essien ever been on that level? https://t.co/Us4Cnv2NAU

Partey isn't half the player Essien was if we're being honest https://t.co/D6NR4m1IFw

The problem with the stat generation is a complete lack of context for anything.

Essien played at a time when the midfield was not Africa class - it was world class and loaded. The team didn't depend on him for goals like it does for Partey. https://t.co/LNo4uq0ToP
Even as a Leeds fan I’d say Essien for this goal alone #lufc #cfc pic.twitter.com/zaLlYILFVg

Partey vs Essien. I love this! But I don’t get those saying you can’t compare the two. What exactly is the reason for that?
