Former Ashantigold SC defender Richard Osei Agyemang has shed light on the challenges faced by home-based players in the domestic leagues, citing the lack of lucrativeness in the Ghana Premier League as a significant issue.

According to Osei Agyemang, the Ghana Premier League's financial shortcomings are affecting home-based players, prompting a wave of player exodus in recent times.

The league has seen some of its prominent stars, including Richmond Lamptey, Ibrahim Danlad, and Enoch Morrison, leave for clubs in Rwanda and other African countries in the recently concluded season.

Osei Agyemang highlighted low remunerations as a major factor driving these breakout stars away from Ghana in search of better opportunities.

He emphasized that the inadequate salaries in the local scene discourage players from staying in the league.

"There is no local player who is rich. There is no one, I tell you. I dare anyone to come out. If players earn good money, they will stay in the league. Salaries given to players in the local scene are nothing to write home about. If a local player earns GHC10,000, I don’t think that player will move outside. We have to fight for the boys so they can also get something. Very soon, we will see amateur players playing in the league,” Osei Agyemang said in an interview on Kessben FM.
