Ex-Black Stars players to get GH¢1.7 million

As part of the Ghana government's promise to reward former players of the Black Stars, who won the Africa Cup of Nations, the sports minister Mahama Ayariga Tuesday presented a cheque for Gh¢ 1.7 million to be distributed among the winning squads.

The amount would be distributed among the 1963, 1965, 1978, and the 1982 winning Nations Cup players.

According to Ayariga, government in partnership with the Ghana Football Association will set up a fund for the ex-players who brought glory to the nation.

The former Information Minister made this known when he hosted former national team players who won the nations cup at an event in Accra.

The announcement by the Sports Minister is expected to be welcomed by ex-Black Stars players as some of them have, in the past, complained bitterly of neglect by the Ministry and the government.

Ghana has failed to win the Nations Cup since it last won the trophy in 1982.
