Ex-Chelsea star Morris mourns Essien's injury

Former Chelsea star Jody Morris has labelled Michael Essien’s latest injury as a biggest blow to the club ahead of the new season.

Essien, 28, collapsed in agony as he damaged his ligament on Thursday in Chelsea training and could be out of action until 2012.

It raises concerns about his long-term future at the top and gives new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas his first major problem.

Morris says Essien’s loss could throw Villas-Boas debut season into disarray.

“Sad news about Michael Essien. First day full training as well. Heard he done his knee cruciate. Sad times,” he said.

The midfield workhorse played 42 games last season giving hopes that he had overcome his injury challenges but the latest situation means the Portuguese manager must find his replacement urgently.
