FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has personally sent a letter of commiseration to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) mourning the death of former Hearts of Oak and Black Stars hero, Robert Hammond who passed away in the United States this week.

Hammond famously shone for Hearts of Oak in the 1970s when he teamed up with Anas Seidu, Peter Lamptey (Goal Thief), Mama Musa Acquah and dribbling wizard, Mohammed Polo to form the most formidable forward line Accra Hearts of Oak have ever had, nicknamed the FEARSOME FIVESOME.

Hammond was also famously called Mr. Expensive because of his then Ghanaian record transfer of ¢1,000 plus refrigerator and helped the Accra giants reach the old African champions’ league finals of 1977 and 1979 as well as win 4 league titles and 3 FA cups.

“Please accept my deepest condolences on hearing of the passing away of former international player Robert Hammond,” said the letter dated May 31 and addressed to GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

“The Accra Hearts of Oak S.C. legend featured prominently for the Black Stars in the 1970s. With his club, he was a key player of the “fearsome five”, winning several league titles and reaching the final of the CAF Champions League on two occasions,” continued the messaged signed by Mr. Infantino.

“On behalf of the members of the international football community, I would be grateful if you could extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We hope that, in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace,” it added.
