FIFA abandons GFA; ditches FA officials in football meeting

It has emerged that FIFA sidestepped officials of the Ghana Football Association(GFA) and only met with government in the much-anticipated meeting over the Football debacle in the country.

FIFA has ceased to recognize the current GFA administration as the International governing body of football association (FIFA) failed to engage any member of the Ghana FA for talks while in Ghana, Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame stated on News File on Joy FM Saturday.

“I think the whole Football administration is in a mess. FIFA has indicated its disposition not to continue with the conduct of Football in Ghana, if so far as this present administration is in place. And that is why when they came to Ghana they decided to abandon the idea of even meeting them. They never met them; they decided to work hand-in-hand with Government of Ghana,” he disclosed.

According to the Deputy AG, there is now a fresh process jointly put together by both FIFA and the Ghanaian government to get football working again and tidy up the mess at the FA.

Meanwhile, government has announced the collapse of the five-member interim management committee (IMC) which was set up to oversee the administration of Ghana football until the current impasse involving the embattled Ghana Football Association is resolved.

FIFA in consultation with Ghanaian government is to put in place interim measures that will allow for the continuation of football in Ghana.

“The Ghana government delegation will continue discussions with FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland, for the purpose of finalising interim arrangements regarding football in Ghana.” a joint statement said.
