The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has been petitioned to investigate and possibly take action against Frederick Acheampong, a member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.

The petition, filed by Listowel Mensah of the Angel Broadcasting Network, is requesting the Ethics Committee of FIFA to sanction Frederick Acheampong for supposedly contravening Article 15 (1) of the FIFA code of ethics.

Listowel Mensah’s allegation is based on Frederick Acheampong's decision to contest the 2024 general elections as a parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party.

According to documents seen by GhanaWeb, FIFA acknowledged receipt of the petition and promised to take action if the petition is found to be credible.

Frederick Acheampong contested and lost the 2024 elections as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South East.

He lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Yakubu Mohammed.

The news comes shortly after reports emerged that Frederick Acheampong had lost his mother.

According to sports journalist Collins Atta Poku, the information was announced by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) on their platform.

The Sompa FM journalist expressed his condolences to his former colleague, with whom he used to work as a journalist at Kumasi-based Kessben FM, and encouraged him to stay strong in such a trying moment.

“Reading on the SWAG platform that Fred Achie has lost his mom really broke me down. My Kessben days allowed me to see how close he is to his mum and how much he clung to her.

"That is a devastating blow for Kofi. This mortal life is strange. Only God knows what is good for us,” Atta Poku wrote on X on December 20, 2024.
