Ghana’s second International Hockey Federation (FIH) male outdoor umpire, George Roland Mensah was decorated with his FIH Badge and handed his FIH identity card and other accessories in a ceremony in Accra on Saturday July 7 2007. The ceremony was performed by the Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) Oko-Nikoi Dzani with the assistance of some members of the GHA, the 2 other FIH outdoor umpires and the hockey fraternity in Ghana.
George was upgraded to an FIH International outdoor umpire in February 2007 after an application was filed on his behalf by the GHA in recognition of his performance over the years, especially during 2006 year.
The decoration of George finalizes his recognition as a full fledge World Hockey outdoor umpire.
GHA Chairman Decorated with 4-Nations Invitational Tournament Medal
The Ghana hockey team returned to Accra during the week after a fruitful tour of the Netherlands. The entire 51 member contingent arrived aboard a KLM flight much to the amazement of many outside the hockey fraternity who believed some players or officials would abscond during the trip.A delighted GHA chairman Oko-Nikoi Dzani met with the teams and later with their officials who decorated him with a beautiful 4-Nations medal. Additionally, the officials decorated GHA Member in Charge of Secretariat and Media Relations, Nii Quaye-Kumah with a medal to show their appreciation for their support while the team was away.
Dita International and Multisports Ghana Donate to National Teams
Multisports Limited, representative of brand owners Dita International of Netherlands presented 51 polo shirts and 51 baseball caps valued at 25.5 million cedis to the Ghana Hockey Teams for use during the African Olympic Qualifier in Kenya.The donation from Dita International was a show of their goodwill towards the teams when they visited the Netherlands during their training tour of that country and as their contribution to buoy the teams to perform creditably during the Kenya championship.
Receiving the donation, the chairman of the GHA expressed his gratitude to the Dita International of Netherlands through their accredited representatives and indicated that a formal letter of appreciation would be sent by airmail in due course.
Royal Netherlands Hockey Association (KNHB) Donate Sports Equipment to GHA
The Royal Netherlands Hockey Association (KNHB) presented various hockey equipments to the Ghana Hockey Association as their contribution towards the development of the sport in Ghana. The items were handed over to the management of the National teams during their training by a member of the KNHB Gabrielle van Doorn.
The chairman was full of praise for the KNHB which he indicated has been a long standing development partner of the GHA. He encouraged the members of the GHA to appreciate the kind gesture of the Netherlands Association and utilise the equipment effectively for the development of Ghana hockey. He also indicated that an official communication will be sent to the Association to thank them for the kind gesture.
Former National Hockey Star Donates to Ghana Hockey
Former national team defence kingpin, Laud Adokwei (Gorman) Ankrah currently in the country on a visit from his base in the United States of America, made a presentation of 100 T-shirts on behalf of his daughter Claudia to the Ghana Hockey Association.Gorman as he is popularly called, informed members of the Hockey Association that he has kept pace with the development of the sport in the country and was encouraged together with his family to give back to the sport that brought him so much honour during his playing days. He expressed the desire of his family, especially his daughter Claudia to make a contribution to the development of young girls through sports.
The T-shirts were arranged through Claudia’s soccer club in the US- DBWV- who have promised to continue to support youth hockey in Ghana.
The Chairman thanked Mr. Ankrah and hoped that his example will be emulated by all hockey loving people.
