Fans cannot wait to see Ashie versus Tagoe

November 11, 2012 will be a day never to be forgotten as
boxing fans in and around Osu, Bukom, James Town, Gbese, Sempe, Chorkor,
Mamprobi and Korle Gonno, keep on debating as to who is the best between George
Ashie aka Red Tiger and Emmanuel Tagoe aka Game Boy.
At stake in the big fight for what is the maiden promotion
of national football team star Asamoah Gyan’s Baby Jet Promotions in
collaboration with Box Office Sports Promotions headed by Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye,
is the WBO International Lightweight title in the main event featuring
reigning Commonwealth Lightweight champ Ashie, 23-3-1, 16 KOs, against former
IBF Intercontinental Junior Lightweight titlist Tagoe, 18-1, 8 KOs.
Both boxers have been engaged in verbal exchanges and signed
a contract to honour the much anticipated fight over two months ago and are
both training fervently for the big night at the nation’s number one sports
arena.
Already, boxing fans have started bragging and betting for
their favourites and the tension and tempo for the fight keeps on rising as the
D day approaches.
Game Boy is training seriously under the eagle eyes of
Professor Azumah Nelson at Achimota, while Red Tiger is training under his old
time coach Dzanie Kotey also called Alloway at the Attoh Quarshie Gym at James
Town.
Both boxers are good, tested in the ring and have the power
to jell on a good night. Both fighters are stubborn and crafty which makes the
outcome very dicey.
The trainers of these fine boxers are experienced, classy
and their fans are vociferous, loud and can really support. At stake is not
only the money, but the reputation and prestige that one of them will carry,
not even the title belt.
Fans in Bukom are known to love boxing more than any other
sport and they are giving this fight all the publicity, attention and respect.
The promoters and match makers are working tirelessly to give boxing fans a
real match that can be compared to international standards.
George Ashie who loves to play football on weekends said the
fight will expose the best of him and he will expose Tagoe as a minnow in the
game.
“I will give him no space to hide. It will be action all out
and I want the fans to come early. I will not predict when to take him out, but
I want the fans to come in their numbers to see real boxing action and
entertainment. I am very grateful to Baby Jet Promotions for giving us this
opportunity. You can see there is lack of fights in Ghana and that is one of
the reasons why we do not have good boxers now,” he said.
