Fans trilled to boxing extravaganza in Kumasi

Kumasi, Nov 19, GNA - Veteran Baba Anafo of B.B. Boxing Club used his rich experience to his advantage to overcome Baba Clay of Queen Elizabeth Club in their six-round Light Welterweight professional contest at a boxing extravaganza at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on Sunday.

The event, which was put together by Agyaba Boxing Promotions in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Authority, (GBA) had four professional and some amateur bouts designed to whip up the interest of the people of the Ashanti Region.

Clay ironically was the aggressor in the first round and nearly upset Anafo with a powerful right hook which sent the veteran to the canvas after the two boxers traded hefty punches in the initial stages. Anafo, a south-paw who was determined to carry the day, managed to overcome the initial scare as he kept his composure and resorted to occasional jabs to ward off his advancing opponent. In the second, third and fourth rounds, Clay continued with his onslaught in the second, third and fourth rounds by being more aggressive and chasing his experienced opponent round the ring and succeeded in landing many accurate punches on Anafo's face but the winner was resilient.

Anafo from the fifth and sixth rounds turned the heat on his opponent with a barrage of left hooks after it seemed that Clay was tiring but he was saved by the bell.

The close contest ended 58-56 in favour of Anafo whose supporters went into wild jubilation.

In the Lightweight fray, Ibole 'The Flash' Issaka of Akotoku Boxing Academy of Accra recorded a third-round technical knockout win over Fuseini Rasheed of Indigo Boxing Club also from Accra in their eight-round contest.

Rasheed's corner had no option than to throw in the towel shortly after the third round commenced to save their ward from further punishment as Ibole pummeled him into submission with a combination of punches.

In another Lightweight bout, Yaw Sakiya of Queen Elizabeth Boxing Club out-pointed Richard Caesar of B.B. Boxing Club with a score of 59-55 whilst Samuel 'Whitaker' Wobil of B.B. Boxing Club drew 57-57 against Samuel 'King Kong' Kanga of Queen Elizabeth Club in their Welterweight encounter.

In the amateur division, Abanga Daze of Queen Elizabeth Club beat John Kojo of Asawasi Club 3-0 in their Featherweight contest whilst Tambilla Kabaya of B.N. Boxing Club also recorded a 3-0 win over fellow gym mate Negro Twins in their Lightweight fray. 19 Nov. 07
