Fatau Dauda not guaranteed first choice role

AshantiGold Chief Executive Kudjoe Fianoo says returnee goalkeeper Fatau Dauda can revive his career with the Miners but must work hard to earn a place in the team.

The 29-year-old cancelled his contract with PSL side Chippa United two months into the contract citing monetary issues and failure to adhere to contractual agreement.

Dauda is eager to end a nightmarish career since moving to South Africa last season by returning to the club he played for four years.

But he faces stiff competition from Robert Dabuo and Nana Bonsu.

“Fatau Dauda is one of us and I must say he called me to inform me of his decision to come back home and I told him the transfer window was opened here,” Fianoo told Accra based Happy FM.

“We will have him in our team but as to him starting I am sure the coach will decide that.

“We had similar situation some years ago with George Owu coming back from a move abroad and felt he could walk into the team but then Fatau Dauda had picked up and it was difficult for then coach David Duncan to drop him.

“So Fatau would have to do extra work to get his position back once he is here.”
