Father of jailed Ghanaian footballer in critical condition

The father of jailed Ghanaian footballer Kwame Bonsu named Mr. Jones Osei Kwabena Bonsu was in a critical condition when his son was arrested and handed two-year jail sentence in Sweden following sexual assault of his former wife.

The 22-year-old, who currently plays for second-tier side Gefle IF in Sweden after joining from Mjallby AIF two seasons ago, was accused of the act which took place in 2015.

The player and his lawyers were at the Gavle District Court on Friday for the final verdict.

“My dauther heared the bad news of his brother Bonsu been handed two-year jailed sentence” Mad. Akosua Ataa told Atinka TV Sports Court.

“And nobody was ready to inform me, because Bonsu’s father was in a critical condition then.”

“The doctors operated him a day after Kwame was arrested so they decided to hind it from me.”

She added“They informed me two weeks after my son arrest because that the father condition became stable”

“He was arrest a month later before he was handed a two-year jailed sentence”

Gefle have released an official statement on their website to confirm the verdict and subsequently cancelled his contract.

An appeal has been launched however the sitting has been scheduled for 10th July.
