Former Black Stars player, Prince Tagoe has called on the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, to prioritize organizing inter-school leagues more frequently.

Tagoe believes that while juvenile tournaments are beneficial for scouting, they do not reach as many young talents as inter-school leagues.

Tagoe highlighted that the inter-school leagues allow more participation, especially those whose parents are hesitant to allow them to play in football tournaments due to injury concerns.

Speaking on Angel FM, Tagoe entreated Kurt to collaborate with the relevant educational stakeholders to make inter-school leagues mandatory, ensuring a broader talent pool for the national teams.

“The tournament is good but looking at the competition that produces the best players for us, I would prefer that he focuses more on the inter-school leagues. I think they are much better than some selected players for the U-17 tournaments. When they make the measure in schools compulsory to be done every term, it will help.

“There are very good players who are not allowed to play football outside school by their parents so those tournaments will not cover them. So for those people to be involved, the inter-school league should be compulsory for government or private schools to raise more talents,” he said in Twi.

This statement follows the U-17 tournament held in Prampram.

During Kurt Okraku’s visit, he expressed his satisfaction with the competition, noting that he knows it will serve as the future talent pool for the U-20 and potentially the Black Stars.
