Chief Executive Officer of Aduana Stars, Albert Commey claims there is cautious optimism among many football administrators that normalcy will soon return to the running of the Ghana Football Association after assurances from higher authorities that the Normalization Committee will leave office by September 30.
For the last one year, club football activities have virtually come to a standstill except for a hurriedly arranged Normalization Committee Special competition and the participation of Kotoko and Ashantigold in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.
Dr Kofi Amoah and his Normalization Committee has been superintending over affairs of Ghana Football since June last year following the release of the Number 12 documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas which led to the resignation of former FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The Normalization Committee has been making some proposed changes to the GFA statutes. Those changes according to the Normalization Committee will to a large extent eradicate corruption from Ghana football and literally sanitize Ghana football. However, all the proposals put together by the Normalization Committee would have to be approved by the GFA Congress on September 5.
With many footballers still idling at home while club owners continue to pay them salaries, Albert Commey says it appears there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Speaking on Joy News earlier this week, Commey said “Since we had the NC giving us the roadmap it has brought a bit of hope so for now we are waiting to see what they have for us in terms of the Congress and then the elections to come thereafter. Football must start in the country because the players, workers and others are struggling. Generally if you look at the value chain; the sellers and hoteliers are all facing difficult times so we need to really come for those people to contribute to the progress of this country.”
The climax of the NC’s mandate will be to organize elections to replace the former Executive Committee and also a new GFA President to replace Kwesi Nyantakyi.
A date, and modalities for that election will be decided at the September 5 Congress to be held in Accra.
Kurt Okraku, Wilfred Kwaku Osei, George Afriyie, Fred Pappoe and Nana Yaw Amponsah are all expected to contest for the GFA Presidency.
