Former IBF bantamweight champion, Joseph King Kong Agbeko, now known as Torgbui Kaletor II, has launched "Fight Night," a programme under the Joseph Agbeko Foundation to support juvenile and amateur boxers in the country.

The event, which will feature a series of bouts aimed at training local boxers, is themed "The New Generation" and is set to take place on November 8, 2024.

Agbeko, the 2007 world champion who also held the Commonwealth bantamweight title from 2004 to 2006 and the IBO bantamweight title in 2013, stated that his dream for this initiative is to support Ghanaian boxers and propel them to the world stage.

"The project is for me to be able to nurture and grow the talents of boxers who have the potential to become world champions so that I can use my experience and everything I have acquired in boxing to help them achieve their dreams," he said.

"We want to change the face of boxing in the country, both for juveniles and amateurs."

Agbeko, who held the IBF bantamweight title twice between 2007 and 2011, emphasized Ghana's strong boxing tradition, stating, "If not number one, Ghana is one of the best boxing countries in the world."

The headline bout will feature Benedict Badu and John Plange, who will battle for a lightweight title on November 8, 2024, at the Kitase Basketball Arena in the Eastern Region.

Other fighters on the card include Rafael Quaye, Henry Owusu, Henry Maam, Ebenezer Ankrah, David Ankrah, and Prince Kamaldeen, among others.

Bibi Bright, the Chief Executive Officer of Game Park and Game TV, the main partner of the event, stated that their organization is committed to supporting the boxing industry.

"We have boxers who are just community boxers, but these are very talented individuals.

“What can we do as a people to protect them so that when they reach the next level, they will not only project their names but also project the name of Ghana? So, we decided that we are going to pay special attention to the boxing industry," she said.
