Former defender of Asante Kotoko, Eric Donkor, has revealed that during his time at the club, he was approached to fix a match.
According to him, the club involved at the time was in a relegation battle and needed points to stay up.
Speaking to Akoma FM, Eric Donkor said he turned the offer down.
“During my playing days, I recall being asked to personally fix a match. It involved a team that was in the relegation zone and was an away game for Kotoko but I declined it. Based on the results I received, I’m sure they called a few other players as well. I told them I wasn’t ready, so I didn’t interact with them too much. I did that because I value my integrity so much and those who know me personally know that,” Eric Donkor explained.
Eric Donkor believes that while betting companies support some of the local teams, there are always going to be instances where they will have some kind of impact.
He is also of the view that as long as players are not paid properly, they will be tempted by match-fixing proposals.
