Accra, Aug 5, GNA - Ofori, Donkor, Dowouna and Atiso (ODDA) syndicate, former members of the Ghana Davis Cup team have presented tennis equipment worth 60 million cedis to the Ghana Tennis Association (GTA) in their quest to promote the sport in the country.
The quartet, led by Frank Ofori who would be staging a weeklong tennis tourney beginning from Monday, August 8, said the presentation, which is their maiden donation is the commencement of great things to come.
The items, made up of cartons of tennis balls, rackets, reels of racket strings, caps, grips, sports watches as well as cones and markers would be used as prizes for players who excel in the competition. The competition, to be staged at the Frank Ofori Centre Court of the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra, would draw participants from the Boys U-12 and 16, men and ladies.
Ofori said ODDA's gesture stems from their desire to give something back to the sport, which has made them what they are. "I am personally honoured by the Ministry's decision to name the centre court after me. My colleagues are equally proud of how far tennis has brought us and are glad to be associated with the coming competition", he added.
Dr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Chief Sports Development Officer at the Ministry of Education and Sports underscored the relevance of the gesture to the sport and called on corporate bodies and former sports personalities to emulate the quartets gesture.
