Former Asante Kotoko striker Francis Andy Kumi has made a surprising move by signing with Medeama SC, the former Ghanaian champions, ahead of the upcoming season.

This transfer is a significant blow to Hearts of Oak, who were on the verge of securing the highly profiled forward's signature just 48 hours earlier.

However, Medeama, known for their strategic player acquisitions, swooped in to secure Kumi on a two-year deal, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

Kumi's previous stint saw him score nine goals for Kotoku Royals in the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League season before moving to Serbian side FK Radniki Nis.

Despite his team's relegation, Kumi's performance stood out, establishing him as the club's top scorer.

After a brief period with OFK Vrsac in Serbia last term, Kumi returns to the Ghana Premier League as a free agent.

Kumi spent a short time at Bechem United after leaving Kotoko in August 2022 before signing for Royals in January 2023.

His addition to Medeama's squad is expected to bolster their attacking options as they prepare for the Ghanaian league and the FA Cup competitions.
