Former Ghana Football Association Vice President, Fred Pappoe, takes his turn on Sports Check with GhanaWeb.com Sports Editor, Daniel Oduro. The man who was once a trusted lieutenant of GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, opens up about his time at the FA and the things he and the FA President did to make the Black Stars successful between 2005 -2011.

Fred Pappoe stated that the current turbulent relationship between Mr Nyantakyi and his immediate past Vice President George Afriyie is to be expected once Congress gave the President absolute powers to appoint his own deputy- a departure from the practice where elections were held to get a GFA Vice President.

According to Pappoe, who is now a Director of Accra Great Olympics, that law, with the benefit of hindsight, should be scrapped to prevent a repetition of the Nyantakyi-George Afriyie infamous fracas in the future.

Mr Pappoe argues that Kwesi Nyantakyi will struggle to excel in his job as GFA boss as long as he holds multiple jobs at CAF and FIFA, and thus must relinquish some of the portfolios he holds if he wants to be more effective.

On the ongoing legal case between Great Olympics and the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe maintains they have a legitimate claim and have no regrets for pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion. He says it is hypocritical of the FA to ban the referee at the centre of the controversy and yet refuse to sit to deliberate on the merit or otherwise.

For the umpteenth time, Fred Pappoe confirms he is considering contesting next year’s GFA elections.
