Ex-Ghana international Frimpong Manso wants the country to build a new defensive partnership following growing criticism over the back-four.
The partnership of Awal Mohammed and Jonathan Mensah has come under the spotlight following the side’s 1-1 stalemate against Guinea in last Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Awal, who plays for South African side Maritzburg United, struggled to combine effectively with Mensah at the heart of defense.
Mensah’s partnership with regular John Boye has also been questioned with many ‘school boy’ errors in the past and the veteran defender has waged into the debate and called for a look-out for new defenders.
“Over the years, we had John Boye, pairing with John Mensah, or Isaac Vorsah pairing with Mensah. The pairing has gone on for long, but we no longer have those materials in the team again, so we have to build a new partnership,” he said.
“We cannot solve the problem in a single match. We need to embark on series of experiments with players before getting solution to the problem.
“The players need to player together and understand each other before we can overcome the challenge.”
Ghana has struggled for stability at the back in the post John Mensah and Isaac Vorsah era.
