Fun games end at Coronation Park

THE Sunyani Coronation Park was the venue for a number of sporting activities last week, all geared towards this year?s Republic Day Anniversary celebration in Sunyani District.

Hundreds of holiday makers who were at the gate-free park on that day were entertained with games such as football, fill the bottle, egg-on-spoon, volleyball, basketball and tug-of-war.

In all, three groups organised the activities from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. on that day.

The organising groups were Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretariat of Keep Fit Clubs Association, Sunyani-based Sky FM Radio Station and the Brong-Ahafo Branch of Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled Association.

The Keep Fit Club Association?s games were football gala, volleyball, fill-the-bottle, egg-on-spoon and tug-of-war.

Keep fit club competitors were Sunyani New Generation, Sunyani Clap For Jesus, Sunyani Central, Berekum, Abesim, Sunyani Club 10, Drobo, One-Torch and Techiman.

In the soccer competition, Techiman beat New Generation of Sunyani 5-4 on penalties in the grand finale, to lift the trophy at stake.

In the other games for the keep fit clubs, Berekum proved their mettle in the men?s tug-of-war and the women?s fill-the-bottle and egg-on-spoon competitions. Led by William Sabi, an administrator of Berekum Holy Family Hospital, Berekum defeated Clap For Jesus of Sunyani 2-0 in the tug-of-war.

In the women?s egg-on-spoon race, Berekum placed first in a time of 22.06 seconds. They were also first in the fill-the-bottle race in a time of 27.88 seconds.

The Disabled Wheel-Chair Basket Ball competition between Brong-Ahafo and their Eastern Region counterparts ended 15-6 in favour of Captain Raphael Botwe and his Brong-Ahafo side.

The Sky FM Radio competition was solely for the station?s Fan Club members from Nsoatre, Wamfie, Odumase, Kwatire, Adantia, Yamfo, Tanoso, Fiapre, Dumasua, Twumasikrom and Sunyani, among others.

They also featured in tug-of-war, soccer and ampe.
