GAC gives to Abuja Squad

Accra, Sept 25, GNA The Ghana Aids Commission (GAC) on Thursday made a donation of 500 golf shirts to the 192-man contingent which will represent the nation at the 8th All Africa Games scheduled for Abuja, Nigeria from October 4 to 18.

Reverend S.T. Doku, a member of the commission made the donation on behalf of the commission at a short ceremony in Accra.

He said the shirts carry an AIDS message, which will be communicated to many people as members of the contingent will be expected to wear them before, during and after the games.

"Through this, there will be behavioural and attitudinal changes among people and this will help reduce the damage being caused by AIDS to the continent and the world as a whole," he said.

Reverend Doku said "sports men and women must help fight the spread of the disease in the country since the government and the commission cannot do it alone".

He advised them to do their best to bring honours to the nation by winning medals.

The All Africa Games are scheduled to start from October 4th and end on October 18. The Ghanaian contingent will depart Accra on October 1. 25 Sept, 2003
