Accra (Greater Accra) 24 June ?99
Ghana Breweries Limited (GBL) will sponsor the 24th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards night at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Saturday, July 10.
Mr Joe Aggrey, President of the association, said this at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday.
He said a package of 20 million cedis made up of 15 million cedis cash and five million cedis in products have been provided by GBL.
The brand names-- ABC Lager Beer- will be used for the occasion.
He said this marks the return of GBL to familiar grounds, because the former Kumasi Brewery Limited, a key component of GBL, was a long-standing and valuable partner in SWAG's past programmes.
Mr Aggrey said for the first time the awards night has gone deep into the year because the association has had difficulties in putting together a sponsorship package worthy of the high standards.
He said it is now becoming increasingly clear that one company cannot shoulder the burden of sponsoring the awards night.
He therefore appealed to all sports loving companies, organisations and individuals, to contribute generously for the association to fittingly honour outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen.
Eighteen sportsmen and women will be honoured with Raymond Narh, gold medallist at the last Commonwealth games in Malaysia, topping the list as the "Sportsman of the year".
