Winneba, Sept 12, GNA - The Winneba branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank has presented a cheque for 26.2 million cedis to the University of Education Winneba (UEW) towards the organization of the 19th edition of the Ghana Universities Games to be held in January next year at the UEW campus.
Mrs Joyce Ata-Krah, the Area Manageress of the bank who presented the cheque, said the presentation was upon a request by the university and that the donation should be used to sponsor soccer. She expressed her gratitude for the cooperation between the bank and the university and expressed the hope that it would be strengthened. Prof Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, Vice Chancellor of the University who received the cheque, thanked the bank and appealed to other organizations to follow the example.
He said the university would need about 1.8 billion cedis to organize the games and appealed NGOs and other philanthropists to assist.
Disciplines to be competed for at the games are soccer, table tennis, handball, volleyball, basketball and athletics. The University of Ghana, Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, University of Development Studies, Tamale, University of Mines, Tarkwa, UEW and the University of Cape Coast would participate in the Games.
