Vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has played down Ethiopia’s insistence to stay at the NODA hotel to superstitious beliefs.

The national football team of Ethiopia rejected the NODA hotel saying it was not up to standard and preferred the Golden Tulip or Golden Beam Hotel.

However, their choice was not granted due to the unavailability of space.

They later settled for the Royal Lamerta Hotel late on Thursday night.

"They are not the first team we have booked for the NODA Hotel but we know what informed their decision," Afriyie told Happy FM.

"Because they heard we beat Egypt 6-1 after lodging there, but we're not surprised by the rejection and it happens especially in African football where superstition in football is rated high. They were within their rights to request for a change."

The Black Stars will open their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier campaign against the Walias of Ethiopia on Sunday.
