GFA denies sacking of coaches

The Ghana FA has denied reports claiming heads of national female team coaches have been sacked.

Reports went viral this week that all senior coaches of the various female national teams have been sacked in the aftermath of the dismissal of Robert Sackey as Black Princesses head trainer.

The Technical Director of the FA, Francis Oti Akenteng, has flatly denied the reports, insisting no decision has been taken on their long-term future with the association.

“The mandate given the coaches was one year so within that time the Ghana FA must sit down and assess the coaches,” Akenteng said.

“It is after the assessment that we will take a decision, but for now we have not taken any decision on any coach,” he explained.

Out of the four national women’s teams, only the Black Maidens performed creditably last year where they placed a historic third at the FIFA World Cup in Azerbaijan.

The country’s Under-20 team failed to progress past the group phase in the 2012 World Cup without scoring a single goal and conceded six.

The Black Queens even failed to qualify for the African Women’s Championship held in Equatorial Guinea.
