GFA leans towards Stevanovic

In a potentially career-altering moment for Goran Stevanovic, Ghana's FA President says it would be more expedient to keep him.

Kwasi Nyantakyi has been quiet since the highly charged atmosphere pertaining to the coach's stay increased after the recent Afcon. But speaking to Accra-based Joy FM, the head honcho of Ghana football gave away his leanings.

"The realistic thing is that is that Ghana stands to benefit if we retain his [Goran's] services. If we retain him, we will save some amount of money that would have to be given to him if we dispense with his services."

Should Ghana keep Goran, the big question is whether he has the trust of his players and FA to get the Stars to the next Afcon and World Cup. the GFA boss believes so: "The question however is: is he capable of leading us to Nations Cup victory next year? Is he capable of qualifying us to the 2014 World Cup? The bottom line is that is he capable of taking us to the promised land?"

"And it is yes in my opinion."

Nyantakyi was quick to note that his view does not reflect those of the Executive Committee. "But others within the Executive Committee also say no"

As a result of these differences, the FA will hold a final series of talks in he coming days to finalise arrangements. That Tuesday meeting will be pivotal for the national team, whose unity has been severely tested in the aftermath of the African Cup of Nations.
