Ex-Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston says that the Ghana Football Association should offer a longer contract to the senior national team head coach.

Charles Kwablan Akonnor was appointed coach of the Black Stars on a two-year deal in early January replacing his former boss Kwesi Appiah and has been in charge for three months.

The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko trainer, who is deputized by David Duncan has been tasked to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations as well as secure qualification to the 2022 world cup in Qatar.

Laryea Kingston believes that national team coaches must be given three to five years to build their own team in order to achieve success with the team.

"They should give coaches some time because sometimes when you are building a team, at least you will need like 3 to 5 years that’s when the players will understand your philosophy, what you are bringing on board and other things," he told Starr Sports.

"The first two, three months for you being with the players, you will do a lot of talking but after that, they will understand your daily periodization when you are periodizing your training programme weekly, monthly and yearly, they will understand what you want to bring on board."

"So for me, I think three years would have been good for him and then we monitor how he is faring and within that time we will see the sort of legacy he will bring on board within that period for the players and the whole country."
